Life Together

AS CHRISTIANS, WORSHIP forms the center of our lives. As a church, our weekly worship centers us and forms our identity as a worshipping, welcoming community. Through worship, we reaffirm God’s goodness, justice, and mercy, quieting our minds to hear the voice of the Spirit. From worship, we are sent out, inviting others to be reconciled to God.

In keeping with our Anabaptist tradition, our worship emphasizes simplicity and honesty, rather than structure and formality. We gather in a simple sanctuary to sing songs of praise, typically a mixture of traditional hymns and contemporary worship.

We spend time greeting each other, and celebrate God’s abundance through an offering.

Our pastor then invites us to explore the word of God together, as we make connections to our daily experiences and are challenged to become more fully-formed to Christ’s image.

Worship services at OVMC typically end between 11:30 and 11:45am.

Although worship forms the center of our life together, our life together doesn’t end when we leave the church. Instead, we cultivate close relationships through shared service, praying for each other, and encouraging each other throughout the week.

As Mennonites, we have a firm commitment to mutual aid—the practice of sharing our resources with people in need. While we don’t raise quite as many barns as we used to, we do support each other by helping with medical bills and other emergencies that arise.

We have a child protection policy in place to protect the safety and well being of all the children.

We also devote ourselves to helping “the least of these,” working with organizations like MCC (Mennonite Central Committee) and MDS (Mennonite Disaster Service) to provide poverty and disaster relief through hands-on help and charitable giving.

Our life together is also shaped by a shared commitment to peace, shalom in Hebrew, letting God move ourselves and the world towards the place where nothing is missing, nothing is broken. We work for peace in our homes, in our communities, in our neighborhoods, and in our world.

We invite you to visit us.

Sunday morning worship starts at 10:30am.
Sunday School (all ages) starts at 9:30am.
